I LOVE that you are here! And in the spirit of love, I am here to share with you my 5 favorite mentor texts for the week of Valentine’s Day! With, of course, the links to each of them so you can share the love!
I shared about Hair Love last week, but it’s my favorite for our main mentor text for Valentine’s week! We kick off the week with a lesson on character inferences and this carries through all of our mentor texts! If you aren’t part of my email list, make sure you join since I shared a big freebie to go with this one last week!
LOVE is a celebration of its title, and it shows how this universal bond carries and connects us all. The perfect book to also review theme!
Robot in Love is a quick and hilarious read! Your students can work on their character inference skills for feelings, and it is great for teaching onomatopoeias!
Caveboy Crush tells the hilarious story of a young boy trying to impress his crush. Your students will be yelling “CRUSH!” with you as he expresses his emotions! 😂 Such a fun book for sequencing of events to show comprehension!
A Crankenstein Valentine with our beloved main character, who can’t handle all of the lovey dovey stuff of Valentine’s Day… YECCCHH! I’ve always used the Crankenstein books for teaching or reviewing the vowel pair ‘ei’ making the long ‘i’ sound, and the different sounds it makes in words! It’s also a great text to fit into the character inferences theme of the week!
You will get so much out of this little group! Talk with like-minded teachers who are ready to use or already using authentic texts to learn together.
