Yes.
I had a revelation.
It involves technology.
I am seriously, entirely, so incredibly EXCITED to share this with y’all.
It all started on Monday morning…
As you all know, I was in Columbus, Ohio attending the eTech Ohio conference. This is the 2nd largest technology conference in the US, and let me tell you.. it is AWESOME!
Before going, I spent a while looking at the 150+ breakout sessions I could attend, and 3 Keynote speakers. I decided on two major focuses: Moodle and iOS in the classroom. (For those of you that do not know what Moodle is, it is a LMS, or Learning Management System where teachers who want to flip, or just partially flip their classroom through online quizzes, discussions, videos, etc can do so.)
Reasons Why:
1.) My district has a license for Moodle purchases and it is accessible to me.
2.) I have heard so many great things about teachers using Moodle.
3.) I WANNA TRY MORE TECHNOLOGY IN MY ROOM!!!
4.) Hubs and I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and we LOVE it
And the list goes on. So, I got out my handy dandy highlighter, and got to work picking my sessions. When we got there, they had this GREAT Guidebook App where I just added my sessions to My Schedule, and BOOM… reminders, updates, everything was on my iPhone.
And so the Moodle discovery began…
and then it ENDED.
Yes, after sitting through 3 information sessions before lunch on Monday on Moodle, I couldn’t stop thinking that this program would be WAY to hard for my fourthies. Not to mention, incredibly time consuming for me to create meaningful lessons. I watched speakers struggle to navigate through the site to show different things to do, I heard COUNTLESS teachers ask questions because it was so hard to understand how to create things, and I stared at the UGLY (yes, I’m sorry Moodle, but your site is SO not aesthetic) website that is cluttered and so not fun.
So what did I do? I remade my schedule! I spent the first 2 hours after lunch wandering through the tradeshow, looking at the different booths of companies advertising their services and giving away so many water bottles, pens, highlighters, post-its, and other countless things we all take, but really don’t need π Low and behold.. I am handed this…
I'm your newest follower and I was also at etech last week. Loved Max Brooks. One of our 6th grade teachers fell in love with Schoology too. I am going to have to check it out π
