The first week back is always tough, even with 2 cold days! This short long week was tiring, and I am ready for the weekend! First, let me share with you some fun we had in our few days together! π
We started off our week with a few New Year’s activities! We used Pinkadot Elementary’s pack and Rundees Room. Our final project was the 3-D mobiles from Rundees Room’s pack! We actually hung some up in our classroom above their desks and put others on display in our lobby. They were SO proud of them and I see them look at them constantly.
We dove right back into the swing of things with our color coded reading and note taking in Social Studies! You can read more about that in my blog post from yesterday here!

We had an impromptu writer’s workshop when I saw these awesome pictures of lighthouses in Michigan. We tied a little Science in (even though I don’t teach it!) and talked about why this happens and watched videos of water freezing instantly, and other cool water tricks!

I put the pictures in a slide show and played some quiet music while they scrolled through. Their writing prompt was “Tell what happened before this picture was taken.” Their stories were amazing!
We reviewed a few skills this week! One of them was the simple task of sequencing! I wanted it to be fun so after finding this pin on Pinterest, I decided to use it! I gave each group a different winter themed book and they read it together and took notes on a graphic organizer.
Then I gave them white paper to cut out their life size snowman, and they worked together to build the beginning, middle, and end sequencing snowman.
They turned out awesome!

I SURVIVED! Yes, that deserves its’ own number. It was a short week, but a tiring one. The kiddos were off the walls from being stuck in their houses for so long and they were so excited to see their friends. I sure missed them though and their hilarious antics! Time to rest up this weekend for another fun week full of Figurative Language! Check back on Sunday to see a peek at our week and all we will be doing π
Love the sequencing snowmen! They turned out great! Those pictures of the lighthouses are fantastic. I am sure your students were very inspired!

Wow! You accomplished a lot in your short week! I only had two days this week due to snow and it was hard to be motivated. We also had to have our "Christmas" party today since we had a snow day the last day before break. That made for an odd week! I loved reading about all your great activities!

Thank you so much for sweet comment on my blog!!! π
Love those lighthouses!
I love, love , love your idea with the story behind the pictures! I am trying to figure out how to add some writing to my science lab (creative writing, that is) so this gives me something to think about. I also love your snowman sequencing. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my little blog!

Teachers Are Terrific!
Surviving definitely counts! I barely made it myself. ;P I love the sequencing snowmen, I may have to try that out in first grade.
